A pretty common scene at the lunch truck. In the foreground
is ... oh, hell, you don't care. I mean, you don't know
these people.
Well, okay, whatever . . . in the foreground is notorious
Nazi war criminal Dr. Josef Mengele, who joined us for the
Kenya-Malawi segment. He rode a red Specialized Rockhopper
with disc brakes.
Typically, the lunch truck was placed slightly past the halfway
mark of the day's ride. So, for example, if we were riding
150 km that day, the lunch truck might be at the 80 or 85 km
mark. But since I rode without an odometer, I usually
would get about 3 km down the road before I started
imagining that every bush, rock, or thistle in the distance was
the lunch truck.
I never thought I would say this, but: I will never eat
Nutella again. As God is my witness, I will never eat
Nutella again.
