mission san buenaventura

Mission San Buenaventura (Spanish for "Good Ventura") is located on Ventura's main street. Not
a lot of the original mission is left; a school covers the old graveyard, for example.  What's left
is nice enough, though.  I didn't go inside this time (I've been inside before), because there was
a funeral of a young man taking place when I got there, and I thought it might look a little gauche
to walk inside in my bike clothes and say, "Hey, sorry to interrupt, just want to take a couple
of photos.  Could somebody move that casket thingie?  Thanks."

For millions of people, Ventura is probably best known from the 1972 song "Ventura Highway," by the
band America.  "Ventura Highway" is only one of several hits that America had, including
"Horse With No Name" and "I Need You" (as well as an early version of "Muskrat Love.")

I fucking hate that band.
