Mission San Buenaventura marks the end of the mainly rural part of the route; from then on,
the missions route (the El Camino Real, if I may be bilingually redundant) takes you across the
urban hellscape that is much of Southern California. 

Riding from Ventura, you pass through Simi Valley, home of the Ronald Reagan Presidential
Library, where you can see dozens of books that The Gipper started reading before he forgot
where he was.  Then it's east into the San Fernando Valley to Mission San Fernando Rey de
España, a large, stately green oasis in the the sprawling city, with fountains and gardens
and chapels and a cemetery and ...
