I saved my local mission, Mission San Francisco de Asís, for
last. Located in (naturally)
San Francisco's Mission District, the mission is generally
referred to as "Mission
Dolores." "Dolores" is Spanish for "sorrows," and it's
generally thought that the
mission was given its name when the Spanish became the first of
many
generations to gentrify the neighborhood.
Even though Mission Dolores is only about a 30-40 minute walk from
my home,
I loaded up my bicycle and rode there. Protocol must be
observed! I then spent
four nights in a nearby Travelodge Inn, drinking cheap Prosecco,
ordering bad pizza, and
watching
I Dream of Jeannie reruns on cable
television. Because it's the journey
that counts, not the destination.
Especially if you're headed to New Jersey.
